While LDLs play a key role in cell health, they build up when the body has more cholesterol than the cells need. This buildup turns into plaque in the arteries (blood vessels). As plaque covers the artery walls, the blood vessels become narrow. This makes it harder for blood to flow through the body, which can lead to heart disease and heart failure.
Statins work by reducing the production of cholesterol in the liver, which lowers the overall cholesterol levels in the body. Not only do statins decrease levels of LDLs in the body, but they can also raise the level of HDLs in the body. In effect, they keep the body from making too much of the “bad” cholesterol that builds up in arteries while increasing the amount of “good” cholesterol that carries the “bad” out of the body. This dual action has been shown, along with diet and exercise, to lower overall cholesterol levels in patients effectively.
Crestor medication for elevated cholesterolThe recommended dose of Crestor is 20 mg once daily, taken with food. The exact recommended dose for adults is dependent on a dry, cool, and room-temperature diet that the drug is specifically designed for.
Crestor should not be taken more than once in 24 hours. Keep all appointments with your doctor to monitor your progress or check for side effects.
Crestor should be taken with water about 1 to 2 hours before you plan to have a meal. Your doctor may start you on a low-fat, low-salt diet and help you swallow the entireiet and not just the meal. If you have a meal that contains no fat, you should avoid taking Crestor throughout the day. Taking this medicine in high-fat foods can increase the level of fat in the body. High-fat foods can make it difficult for Crestor to take the medicine properly, leading to increased risk of side effects like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and certain other cholesterol-related side effects. If you have a low-fat, low-salt diet and are taking this medication, it is important to follow your doctor's instructions and not take Crestor every day.

Serious side effects can include liver problems, an increased risk of heart attack and stroke, uncontrolled certain heart failure, seizures, abnormal heart rhythm, abnormal heart muscle function tests, and even liver cancer. If you experience any of these symptoms, stop taking Crestor and seek emergency medical attention.

Crestor is used to lower cholesterol levels by reducing the production of a small amount of a lipase enzyme in the liver. The lipase enzyme is in charge of breaking down cholesterol into “bad” cholesterol and "good” cholesterol. Without a lipase enzyme, the produced cholesterol can be blocked (reduced) or not be extracted into LDLs. A lipase enzyme prevents a certain amount of the produced cholesterol from being broken down and is responsible for breaking down some of the bad cholesterol into “good” cholesterol. A dyslipidemia drug called fibrate is used to target these negative effects.
Dopamine, another lipase enzyme, is responsible for delivering cholesterol back to cells. When a neuron uses a site called the postsynaptic cleft (APS) to release dopamine, it releases serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter (an chemical in the brain that sends and receives messages from other neurons) that plays a role in controlling activity in nerve cells. Serotonin belongs to a class of medications called 5-HT1A receptors. Medications used to treat or prevent schizophrenia or depression (Anticholesterol Replacement vs. Cholesterol Replacement) also decrease seroton levels. Some examples of 5-HT1A receptors include the 5-HT1A (also referred to as 5-hydroxytryptamine) receptor and 5-HT1A (also referred to as serotonin) receptors.
Rosuvastatin is used to lower a certain number of cholesterol levels in patients with high-density lipoprotein (a type of LDL) who have high levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDLs). Lowering LDL levels increases the risk of heart attack and stroke in patients with high-density lipoproteins.Common side effects of Rosuvastatin may include nausea, dizziness, stomach upset, constipation, diarrhea, and headache. More serious side effects are rare but can occur. If you experience any of these serious side effects, stop taking Rosuvastatin and call your doctor at once:
